Small Hydropower (SHP) plants are formally defined under Resolution 394(12/4/1998) of the Brazilian power sector regulator (ANEEL) as hydroelectric plants with a capacity no greater than 30 MW and reservoirs of an area no greater than 300 hectares (3 km²). The reservoir area is delimited by the water level associated with a flood discharge having a return period of 100 years. Represent clean generation at a low environmental cost.
